Where we've been, who we are, and what we believe

My (owner, Tina) coaching journey began in Mineral Wells when I volunteered at a small childcare center with donated gymnastics equipment. What started as a fun opportunity quickly grew from 10 kids to over 200. After the 1986 oil crash drastically reduced enrollment, I moved to Weatherford and restarted with just six students, founding Weatherford Gymnastics Center.

Over the years, the program grew through multiple locations. In 1997, I felt called to create something bigger—a multi-sport facility. Though I didn’t fully understand it at the time, I stepped out in faith. Soon after, coaches from different disciplines began showing up, and the name “Petra” was revealed—a symbol of strength, safety, and foundation.

In 2006, we moved into a larger facility known as “The Rock,” where the program grew to over 800 students. However, in 2013, we were forced to relocate unexpectedly. We downsized significantly, rebuilding from around 100 students in a basic facility with limited resources.

Through perseverance and faith, enrollment steadily recovered. Despite challenges—including financial strain and COVID closures—we have grown back to strong numbers and stability.

Today, The Rock stands in Hudson Oaks, exactly where I once envisioned it. More than a gym, it is a place where faith, character, and excellence are developed. Through every challenge, God has remained faithful—providing, guiding, and strengthening this vision.

My prayer is that every person who walks through our doors experiences not just training, but purpose, encouragement, and the love of Christ.

Who We are....

Our goal is to provide educational, spiritual, and service opportunities to children from 1st through 12th grade.

By becoming a member of the Rock Academy, your family will:

  • become part of a fellowship of Christian families (#rocktribe), who routinely support and encourage each other

  • enjoy many opportunities to participate in The Rock sponsored activities including educational field trips, parties, and off-season gatherings (summer).

The Rock Academy director approves all positions of leadership, including certified teachers for all class offerings. These teacher leaders are children of light, who love the Lord and follow Him.

Statement of Faith

The Rock Academy holds the following statements of Christian belief to be the foundation upon which we operate:

  1. We believe the Bible to be the only authoritative Word of God, inerrant and infallible. II Timothy 3:16,11 Peter 2:21

  2. We believe there is one true God, manifested in three distinct Persons known as the Trinity, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Genesis 1:1, John 10:30

  3. We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, who is the second person of the Trinity and that He possesses all of the attributes of the Father. He is the only son of God. He was born of a virgin and He is God incarnate (both God and man). He is mediator between God and man and will return in glory. Matthew 16:27

  4. We believe the Holy Spirit, the third member of the Trinity, possesses all the attributes of the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit indwells, instructs and empowers all believers for spiritual service. Matthew 28:19

  5. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the saved and the lost, the saved to eternal life and the lost to eternal punishment. John 5:28-29

  6. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit who gives us spiritual gifts for the purpose of equipping us for the building up of the body of Christ. John 14:26

  7. We believe that all who place their faith in Jesus Christ are placed by the Holy Spirit into the spiritual body of believers known as the church with Christ as the head. Genuine salvation will show itself by bearing fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. Ephesians 2:8-9, Matthew 5:16, Acts 26:20, James 3:13, 1 Peter 27:12

  8. We believe in the creation of man by the direct act of God. Genesis 1:26, Genesis 5:1-2

  9. We believe that man is sinful by nature and that regeneration from the Holy Spirit is caused by us surrendering our will and allowing the Holy Spirit to live through us. We believe that eternal life is a free gift of grace for all who believe. Romans 3:l9 and 23, John 3:16-19, Ephesians 2:18-19, Titus 3:5-6
